OS Wars

A few decades ago we had the cola wars and now we have the OS wars. Which is good.M$ windows or Linux ? Well well my take has always been that, no doubt M$ is headed by a genius who knows what it takes to sell things.That is all.Secondly just by flaming there is no purpose! Nothing can be achieved by just flaming.
In this context this is a good interview of Linus !.
As he says i think it is more apt if instead of flaming that M$ is this M$ is that, it is better to sit and try to improve the standard of linux ! Let the OS speak for itself !

    //Which is good.M$ windows or Linux ? //

    Usually, the OS flames/wars is about the what the OS can/cannot do and how well it does whats it supposed to do. "Which is good?" is open for debate. It usually boils down to
    - what you want from the OS
    - is it what you wanted
    - is it what you expected
    - does it do what you wanted to do like you wanted it to be done.

    This doesnt necessarily mean M$ windows is good or great or bad or worse, its just that their marketing team scored an 'A' grade n they have been able to maintain the same.

    //Secondly just by flaming there is no purpose! Nothing can be achieved by just flaming.//
    People let their frustration out against a product by flaming. Agreed, flaming isnt going to do any good, but I believe, a healty discussion about whats kewl and whats not, would :).

    I believe the cola wars in way was and still is 50-50 (though some might say pepsi has an edge over coke..), they hold almost 50-50 market share. The war is on both the planes, we the consumer plane and the companies management plane.
    But thats not the case with OS, the OS market is pretty much dominated by M$, so theres no real war as of now, maybe in a decade (give or take), we will get to see the war begin. M$ right now is squishing its competition. All we fight/flame about is which OS is good or not good which like you said is not going to acheive a damn thing.

    M$ has made the most of it, because it gives things in a laymans terms.. click it and it happens... Sure Linux will have its time, but not anytime sooner! M$ is for all range of people and Linux is for well educated people who can appreciate the way the things are being done in that OS. This is just my Opinion.

    Well the one that does what you want without troubling you the least is the best!!

    Both MS & Linux have their pro s & cons. And there is always lot of flaming going around on this topic.

    I think passion should be replaced with reason at some point in time...and with this, i think it surely will, pretty soon!
