Well, for want of a better title I chose this !
Gajabhuja in Sanskrit means the trunk of an elephant !
So, in short, the title means big/huge fundas !! :-)

"Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn't do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover." - Mark Twain
That sums up the philosophy of my life, or as so many others call it, the crazy philosophy behind my life ;-)
As I listened to the Tamil version of this song from Swades, I was visibly moved, and sometimes that lump in my throat refused to go away. "sontha veedu unnai vaa enru azhaikkuthada tamizha". How so very true ! Check out the lyrics.
For one, google has thrown its hat into the ring. More importantly, it was forced to do so. How ? It wrote a letter to FCC asking for the spectrum to be made open, in a sense with out the draconian carrier controls that exist under usual circumstances, and the FCC responded back saying if the minimum reserve price is not met, it would auction it off in the usual way. Read more of that here.
Now, my take on this is quite simple. Google will win this auction. Not only will it win this auction, since telecommunication has the potential to revolutionize the economy (Think India and China), I have this feeling that something big is going to happen.
I think this song from Azhagiya Tamizh Magan, must rank high up on Rahman's list of songs, that have a rustic feel to it. Nice use of the Thavil and Nadhaswaram. The rythm is quite lilting too.
Podunga-da andha kuttha ;-) (For the uninitiated, kutthu, or Dappan koothu, is a style of dance quite popular down south TamilNadu)
I can hear this song being played continuously in buses across the state ;-)
As I read the announcement of Android, Google's SDK, the first thing that strikes me is that they have taken a step in the right direction. The SDK is truly cross platform, meaning, it supports Windoze, Mac and Linux.
IMHO, this is very important if you want to capture the entire spectrum of developers and hackers, most of whom are fanatically towards Mac or *ix.
So, here is one of my ideas for Android, though I am sure with the current work load that I have, I would not be able to compete.
How about an integrated video/audio IM application ? Or, how about an application which, if you take a picture, posts it directly to Facebook, Myspace, or wherever you feel like ? How about an application that directly uploads the videos you take to youtube ? The last one is particularly interesting since a video taken using a mobile phone would not be of very high quality and hence, the size of upload and poor connections would not be an issue !
Any takers ? Of course, I can help with a little bit of code here and there too !
Given the fact that google has ruthlessly dominated whatever it had set its sights on, the time is ripe for a sub 50$ smartphone, given that handset makers need not pay any royalties.
Take the movie Life of David Gale, which is essentially against capital punishment, mix it with a Rashomon style Narrative.
Now, set the story in rural TamilNadu milieu. But, you need someone to carry off this kind of story. Heck, you need someone with this kind of imagination to write the story in the first place right ?
Here enters one of India's most versatile actors, Kamalhasan. And what do you get ? A classic called Virumaandi.
Amazing performances by Pasupathi and KamalHaasan.
So, the New York Marathon 2007 has been hunted down with a personal best time in an timed International Marathon. 4 hours and fifty minutes it is. It is a bit pissing considering the fact that I wanted to finish it in 4 hours and thirty minutes.
It was in 1974 that two people joined in Holy Matrimony. Two people who selflessly decided to do whatever they do just for the betterment of their children. It is not that they were born with silver spoons in their mouths. Well, the groom was born with a silver spoon, but then, family issues made that disappear. Hence, like every other Indian parents of that socialist generation, they worked hard, and pretty hard at that, to provide only the best for their children.
I dedicate my personal best and my finishers medal to that selfless spirit of those two people, my parents, on their 34th wedding anniversary. Mom and Dad, you were the best !! Here's to wishing you many more anniversaries, together !!
